The Eagle Eye HGVS-1000 Hydrogen Gas Ventilation System is a forced ventilation fan system used in battery charging rooms and other areas where hydrogen may be present. This is to be used in conjunction with the HGD-2000 Hydrogen Gas Detector. The HGD-2000 is mounted in the highest part of the room and the HGVS-1000 vent fan is mounted through the outside wall. The system is NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) Compliant.

The system has four fans factory-rated at 850 CFM each. This conforms to N+1 for 2550 CFM. The vent is equipped with a "Positive Airflow Shut Off" feature. These doors can be closed by an external electric command, and will stop any airflow from passing through the fans. The vents can be daisy chained; more than one vent can be controlled by one HGD-2000 H2 gas detector and more than one HGD-2000 gas detector can activate a vent. The unit is primarily set up to exhaust air but can be reversed to source forced air into a room. The HGVS-1000 and HGD-2000 are designed with flexibility in mind.

If a battery room has hydrogen gas buildup, the HGD-2000 gas detector will turn on the fans when the atmosphere reached 1% hydrogen. Alarms will sound at 2% concentration. This is before the LEL of 4.1%. During this time, the fans will vent the hydrogen gas. If a thermal event occurs and proceeds into a fire, the fans will turn off and the Positive Airflow Shut Off feature is closed. This will prevent air passage through the fan, drawing oxygen-rich air into the burning room. When the Positive Airflow Shut Off feature is activated, air pressure from the fans, and gravity, will act to close the positive shut off doors and keep them closed. The Positive Airflow Shut Off must be manually reset to prevent inadvertent reset in an actual fire. Louvered dampers on the exterior of the HGVS-1000 will prevent domestic air from escaping from the room during non-operation. The fans will blow these louvered dampers open and gravity will close them. These louvered dampers do add a restriction to the airflow and will decrease the CFM.

The HGVS-1000 gas ventilation system comes as three separate pieces. The unit that is installed in the battery room is a 24" x 24" square. A clearance of four feet is recommended from the wall in front of the unit. There is a flange that is factory adjustable and normally located six inches from the back of the unit. If the wall is concrete, the HGVS-1000 is attached by using normal fasteners. The second part of the unit is a louvered damper and the third is a jack which provides environmental protection for the outside of the unit.

Additional options include mounting wing placement, room exhaust or source, small or large rain shield, N.O. to N.C. and other custom features on request. Properly installed, the HGVS-1000 system is compliant with the National Electric Code (NEC) Section 480.9 (A) for ventilation of battery rooms. This is also the specific requirement for solar or wind-generated powered battery rooms.
